From an early age Swiss-born Prof. Dr. Yair Schiftan dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. His love of animals was the reason he began studying veterinary medicine in Liège, Belgium in 1976. In the second year Schiftan moved to the Vetsuisse Faculty at the University of Zurich in Switzerland where he completed his studies in 1981. He used his knowledge to practice as a small animal practitioner and by doing so learned more about animals and their behaviour. In 1984 he opened his own small animal practice in the Canton of Zurich and obtained his PhD from the University of Zurich in 1986. Since 1990, veterinarian Prof. Dr. Y. Schiftan has been exploring the healing effect of music and vibration, when he discovered that cats’ purring has a therapeutic effect. Studies have shown that cats’ purring relieves pain, relieves spasm and aids the wound-healing process. Following successful application in veterinary medicine, the therapeutic effect of stimulation by means of music and vibration in humans was determined. In 1992 the methodology Musica Medica® was patented and since this time it has been used in both human medicine and pedagogy. From the same year Prof. Dr. Yair Schiftan has been heading research at the Academy of Special Education in Warsaw together with Prof. Dr. A. Stadnicki. Since this time more than 70 Magister, Doctoral and Post-Graduate theses have been able to prove the scientific effect of the Musica Medica® Method. Prof. Dr. Yair Schiftan then resolved to use his knowledge of the Musica Medica® Method to develop a therapeutic device which would help to reduce stress and enhance subjective well-being (SWB). Fitterbrain is the result of the knowledge gathered by Prof. Schiftan since his time at university and which he has applied in his research since 1990 in order to stimulate the body and mind by means of relaxing music and gentle vibrations. In this way the veterinarian has been able to surpass his childhood dream of helping animals and has used his profound knowledge in order to make your life easier.
